If you have been a member of the kratom community for a while now, you are probably no stranger to the constant threat of legislation against the plant we all love and appreciate so much. Unfortunately, it is not shocking news to hear that a new state or county has a ban on the table these days, especially with the abrupt addition of 7-Hydroxymitragynine products to the botanical market. 

In Ohio, the situation is critical right now. Last December, Governor Mike DeWine signed an executive order and supported an emergency rule from the Ohio Board of Pharmacy that immediately banned “kratom-related products”—primarily synthetic or concentrated derivatives like 7-hydroxymitragynine, mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, and similar compounds. While natural kratom leaf (containing trace 7-Hydroxymitragynine) was explicitly exempted at that time, the Board has since moved forward aggressively. Now, they have moved forward in an attempt to classify mitragynine as a Schedule I controlled substance, effectively banning natural kratom products as well. 

We must make our voices heard: We support regulation for safety and quality—not outright prohibition that drives users to unregulated or dangerous alternatives.
